Silvertown Tunnel Construction

See the Silvertown Tunnel construction like never before from the cable car's bird's eye view.

The Silvertown tunnel construction is in full swing and is due to open in 2025 and will provide a new road crossing under the River Thames between the Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks east of the city.

The project will improve transport links in the area, reduce congestion on the existing Blackwall Tunnel, and provide additional capacity for cycling and walking. The O2 Arena is a large entertainment venue on the Greenwich Peninsula in London. It is a popular destination for concerts, sporting events, and other forms of entertainment.

The Riverlinx consortium, a partnership between Cintra Global, Macquarie Capital, and Ferrovial Agroman UK, delivers the Silvertown Tunnel project. The consortium was awarded the contract to design, build, finance, operate, and maintain the tunnel by Transport for London (TFL), the government agency responsible for the transport system in Greater London.

The project is being funded through a combination of private finance and public funding, with the majority of the cost being covered by private finance. The tunnel is expected to cost around £1.2 billion (approximately USD 1.6 billion) to construct and is expected to be completed and open to traffic in 2025. Seeing the amount of plant and equipment at work on this colossal tunnel project is fantastic.
